Camping Near Tofino? You’ll Love Green Point Campground

Get the inside scoop from the Traveling Islanders on 5 reasons you should follow in our footsteps to Green Point Campground. An excellent family campground near Tofino.

I love camping and I’m pretty sure I always have.

Some of my favourite memories as a child include sleeping in the tent with my family, eating outside, roasting a marshmallow over the fire and getting good and dirty playing in nature.

As an adult, that love is still there and I enjoy sharing it with my kids and helping them make some of the same memories. My kids are adventurers at heart and camping sure brings that out of them even more.  They all become even greater explorers and take off to imaginary places as they trounce through the woods and race around on their bikes.

I love watching them.

With summer right on our heels, I’m reminded of our camping trip to Green Point Campground in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and all the reasons it’s so special.

Here are my top 5 reasons Green Point is a great Tofino area Campground:

1. Located Just Steps From Fantastic West Coast Waves And Sand

It’s great not having to load up the car and drive a long way to get to the beach. Long Beach is one of Canada’s great beaches for kayaking, surfing, beach play and it’s located just down a walkable cliff trail from Green Point Campground. There’s hours of fun to be had exploring the sand and waves, and when you’re ready for lunch or dinner, you can easily head back to your campsite. Don’t forget to rent a wetsuit! Brrrrrrrr.

2. Private, Clean, Spacious Sites

Because Green Point Campground sits in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, it’s in the middle of a lush rainforest.  This rainforest provides the backdrop for gorgeous sites that give privacy to your camping experience.  The sites are well-maintained and cleaned regularly and the size is almost big enough to ride your bike around in it.

All sites have a fire pit and large quality wood picnic table with plenty of room for a family tent. If you’re looking for a site with sun, you have to book early and reserve one on the ocean side. Since you’re in a rainforest, all the other sites are pretty much full shade.

3. The bathrooms Are Clean

I’ve been to many campgrounds that only have pit toilets and it gets old really fast.  Here the bathrooms are cleaned daily and have flush toilets. New as of summer 2015! SHOWERS and two fully upgraded washrooms. We haven’t seen them yet, but I’m sure they will be a wonderful addition…especially when camping with kids by the ocean.

4. Quiet And Family Friendly

Seriously, this is a quiet campground. No loud music, no drunken parties lasting into the wee hours of the morn, no loud cars peeling out as they drive too fast.  This place is for families and those wanting a quiet get-away at the beach.  It’s lovely and peaceful.

The woods provide the best playground for a young explorer.  There isn’t a kid’s playground like at Rathtrevor Beach Campground, so instead, my kids found great play areas in the trails and woods surrounding our site.

5. Stunning Location

With absolutely stunning sunsets and lush forests all around, it’s hard to find a more beautiful location.  Because it’s right on the west coast of Vancouver Island and just 30 minutes from both Tofino and Ucluelet, it’s close to all the outdoor adventuring that both towns offer.

All these reasons make Green Point a prime camping location in the Tofino/Ucluelet area.

Green Point campground is full all summer season so you must reserve a site early if you want to stay multiple nights.  We made the mistake of not booking early enough, so we had to move to a different site each night.  This made our stay less relaxing, but still worth it because of how wonderful this place truly is.
