Fast paced, quick wit, eccentric characters and a comedic web of tales had us enthralled from beginning to end. Jeeves Intervenes is another must see!

I laughed harder than I have in a long time.

For almost 2 hours straight, my husband and I sat in Chemainus Theatre and were entertained by watching the fabulous production of Jeeves Intervenes.

We started out the evening in the Chemainus Theatre’s Playbill Dining Room and enjoyed another exceptional meal.

The Playbill changed it up a bit this time and instead of a complete buffet dinner, we enjoyed buffet salads and desserts and then chose one of three different entrees.

It was all quite good, but I have to say, I could have just eaten from the salad choices all night long.  But then, I’m a sucker for exceptional salads –  Greek salad kabobs, quinoa, prawn thai wraps and Jay’s new favourite, creamy lobster pasta a flambé. I mean really, who needs an entree after all that?

But, we pressed on and with my salmon and Jay’s ribs, it’s a wonder we had room for dessert. Never fear though, we found a bit of space for fondue, lemon mirange pie, banana cream, sticky pudding, raspberry cheesecake and topped it off with a cup of tea.

Knowing that our dining table is ours for the evening and our seats in the theatre are reserved makes our entire experience relaxing and enjoyable.  The time spent dining and connecting with one another before enjoying live theatre completes the package of a good date night.

Every time we visit Chemainus Theatre, we are blown away by the quality of entertainment that comes off the stage.

This time, we entered the home of an eccentric wealthy bachelor Bertrand Wooster and his save-the-day valet Jeeves and laughed until we nearly cried.

If you’re familiar with P.G. Wodehouse’s “Jeeves” series, then you understand exactly what I’m talking about.  If you’re not, you’ll surely want to get in on the fun and watch this fantastic play.

Poor Bertie Wooster, determined to remain a bachelor, must navigate the delicate relationship of his overbearing and meddling Aunt Agatha who is set on arranging his marriage to Miss Gertrude Winklesworth-Pipps.

At the same time, Wooster’s best friend Mr. Bassington-Bassington (how’s that for two exceptional names?)  has an equally overbearing and meddling uncle Sir Rupert who is threatening to ship him off to a more productive life in India. The two helpless friends can only survive their fates with the help of dear old masterminded Jeeves.

As layer upon layer of complex relationships and circumstances develop, Bertie and Bassie are left to rely upon Jeeves’ ability to weave a nearly impossible web of deceptive tales all while continuing to serve his employer with impeccable timing and precision.

Every time Jeeves appeared in the room, I wanted to laugh. His emotion-less face and professional manner in the midst of utter chaos in the home, only added to the humour of it all. Meanwhile, Bertie’s myriad of expressions and comical outbursts delighted me to no end.

Its quick wit and at times almost slapstick comedy had us all in stitches.

Every single actor carried their role with utmost precision and perfection, making this production truly exceptional.

I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how Jeeves would be able to solve all the complex problems arising with each interaction.  By intermission Jay and I both laughed as we talked through how they would all get out of the pickles they found themselves in.  And when it was all over, we continued laughing all the way home.

Whether you live in North Island, South Island, Gulf islands, Mainland or anywhere in-between you’ll want to surprise your special someone with Chemainus Theatre’s reasonably priced Luxurious Theatre Getaway package. 

This play was the perfect evening out for us as we were wrapped up in laughter and captivated by the story. You really won’t want to miss out on the fun.
