7 Reasons To Stay At Holiday Inn On Your Island Ski Vacation

Skiing at Mount Washington this winter? Your accommodation choice can make or break your trip. See why we chose the Holiday Inn In Courtenay for our family.

Yes. It matters where you stay when on a ski vacation.

And I’ll tell you why.

Your body needs it.

Being on the snowy mountain all day, falling time and time again…er, I mean feeling the rush of wind from hard core skiing…you will want a place to relax well, that offers you the comforts of home and a bit more.

Our latest trip to Mount Washington brought our family to the door of Holiday Inn in Courtenay, and we really couldn’t have been happier with our choice of hotel.  We were only there 2 nights and our kids kept asking for more.

They were sad to leave. Actually, they were sad to leave the slide. Oh and the auto pancake maker (“Can we get one of those Mom?”).

Admittedly I was sad too, although my reasons were a little different than the kids. It was a wonderful stay.

Here are seven reasons why the Holiday Inn in Courtenay is the place to stay on your ski vacation:

1.  Comfortable Rooms

As with any hotel stay, a hotel is really only as good as the rooms it provides and the night’s sleep you are able to receive.  I love a good hotel bed. You know, the kind that just wraps you up and calls you to dream the dreams of beautiful, deep sleep?

Yeah, I found that the bed in my “parent room” in our suite called my name so beautifully and I slept the whole night through, waking up refreshed in the morning. It may have had something to do with the pillows.

I’ve never stayed at a hotel that gave me options for my choice of pillow fluffiness with labeled pillow cases. I’m a “softy” myself, but if you like firm, they’ve got you covered.

With a fridge to keep our food for the mountain fresh, we enjoyed the amenities here.

2. Continental Buffet Breakfast

Big and balanced enough to keep you going for hours on the slopes.

It is so wonderfully nice to stay at a hotel that takes continental breakfast seriously! The last thing you want to do when you have an early morning call to the mountain is spend time using your hotel bathroom as a kitchen or stopping along the way to eat a horrible fast-food option.

We knew the food was waiting for us downstairs each morning and we actually just sent the kids down by themselves to get started. They love feeling all grown up being trusted to go ahead of mom and dad.

The food is plentiful and offers a substantial assortment to get your day started off right. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, bagels, fresh fruit, cereal, cinnamon buns, yogurt and much more! With so many options the kids just had a hard time choosing what to eat. Oh, who am I kidding…even I had a hard time choosing.

3. Hot Tub With Pool And Whirly SLIDE!

When was the last time you stayed at a hotel with a slide as part of its indoor pool fun?  This was a first for us and proved to be the clear favourite amenity for the Traveling Islander kids.

I was surprised how even after a long day in the snow, they still had enough energy for several more runs down a water slide.

But I suppose when you’re 9 years old, a hotel slide quickly tops the list of fun things to do. I think our kids would forego sleeping if the pool/slide were open all night.

Be warned…if your kids are anything like ours you will need to pry them away from this slide.

4.  Just An Easy 35 Minute Drive To Mount Washington.

When you don’t live right by a ski hill, it’s super handy to stay just 35 minutes away.  Enjoy the snow all day and unwind at sea level at night in town for a great price. It really is convenient.

5. Holiday Inn’s Stay And Ski Packages Saves You Money

I love a good deal and since you’re reading this blog, I know you do too!  The Holiday Inn in Courtenay has a Stay & Ski Package that includes a Mount Washington lift ticket, continental buffet and accommodation for only $119 per person (based on double occupancy).

Since a lift ticket alone is $85, you don’t even have to be good at math to know this is a smart option. Seriously people, stay here with this package!

6. Top Rated

Rated the #1 hotel in Courtenay on Trip Advisor.  That takes a lot of consistent hard work and dedication by a hotel team to get the #1 spot. From our experience, we can see why they deserve it.

If you’re looking for a quality place to stay on your ski vacation to Mount Washington, then the Holiday Inn in Courtenay is an excellent choice.

7.  Located In The Valley

The Comox Valley is home to a few smallish towns with Courtenay as the largest. The Holiday Inn is close to fantastically delicious restaurants and many stores in case you forgot anything or need to rent a set of chains for your drive up the mountain.

The Holiday Inn sits just blocks from many restaurants, so if you are looking for a quick aprés ski stop on the way back home after coming down from the mountain or before heading back to the hotel Courtenay has you covered.

We have enjoyed Atlas Café, Locals Restaurant, Union Street Grill, and Avenue Bistro.

The Comox Valley is full of wonderful activities from beautiful trails and beaches to fishing, biking and so much more.
