Stoney Hill hike is just long enough to get the blood flowing and short enough to be completed quickly. 20 min to the peak and this stunning view is yours!
I have a few good girlfriends who like the great outdoors. We try and get together once a month for a hour or so of good, quality conversation.
Usually we meet at a coffee shop, but when the weather gets nice, we look for a trail to change things up. Here on Vancouver Island we have some of the greatest hiking trails around and the views are simply spectacular.
Often it’s nice to spend the whole day in the woods hiking, but when you only have an hour you need something short and sweet. Stoney Hill was just the Cowichan hiking trail we were looking for.
At about 2 km in length, the Stoney Hill trail takes just under an hour to hike and offers stunning vistas of the Gulf Islands.
It’s just long enough to get the blood flowing and short enough to be completed quickly. The Stoney Hill trail loop has several flat viewpoints perfect for a picnic lunch, a panoramic photo, or even a marriage proposal.
But for this day, my 3 friends and I enjoyed sweet fellowship.
Directions To Stoney Hill Hiking Trail
Getting there from Highway 1: Turn East on Trunk Rd. and follow for 2.7 km. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Maple Bay Rd. Follow for 3.4 km. As the road begins to descend toward the ocean, turn right onto Genoa Bay Rd. Follow for 5 km past Maple Bay Marina and Birds Eye Cove Farm. Turn Left onto Stoney Hill Rd. Follow for 1 km. There’s a small pull out parking lot on the right.
Veer left when you come to the “T” in the trail to enjoy the vistas for the 2nd half of the hike. Another amazing Vancouver Island hiking trail for you to try out yourself.
I’ll be taking my kids this summer so maybe I’ll see you out there!
Looking for a little longer of a hike with an equally stunning view? Try Mount Tzouhalem one mountain over.
